le Cocon du Papillion (LCDP, Inc.), a transition complex for women and children who have been living in abusive situations and need long term low income housing. Le Cocon du Papillion is a gated secure complex containing enough units to house 150 families.
In the center, the Heart of the LCDP is a community center that contains all the resources to ensure that each individual is provided all the tools necessary to rebuild their lives:
- A childcare facility for children from birth to age ten with after school care provided
- An exercise facility geared towards helping rebuild image confidence and learn self defense tactics
- An auditorium for holding speaking engagements, stage performances and graduation ceremonies
- A counseling center for group and individual counseling
- A laundry/library for women to further educate and share experience
- Several gardens for peaceful meditation
- A lighted walking path and two playgrounds
This center will not offer a bandage, or a short term fix, but a long term solution to a widespread seemingly hopeless situation that many women are trapped in and cannot find the resources to escape. In this facility they will find the family, the network, the support they need to repair their spirit and move on to a healthy new life free of the chains of abuse. The LCDP will be built in St. Tammany Parish bordering Tangipahoa Parish, a central location has been chosen with easy access to Interstate 12. This will enable the women and children from Baton Rouge, New Orleans and all Parishes in between to maintain existing jobs or commute if necessary to one in their field. We are working with the St. Tammany Economic Development Board as well as the Tangipahoa Economic Development Board and Southeastern Louisiana University to utilize all forms of community participation. This facility will not only bring in jobs for this area, but will also help to provide much needed employees to many of the local businesses. As you are aware, this is unfortunately a much needed and long overdue facility for our State and we intend this to be the model for the first of many to be built throughout Louisiana.
